Making Friends as an Expat

IMG_4626
I’ve been thinking today about how much happier I am since making some really wonderful friends! I touched on this on my last post, but some days I can’t believe the change. Of course, I’m still homesick quite often, but I’m starting to finally get my bearings, feel at home, and actually LIKE living here! Making friends in a new culture isn’t always easy, so I’ve thought of some good tips and I realized I should have been better in the past on doing these things as well. Read more

Visiting Dubai……Part II

20150225-190950.jpg

I’ve been trying to think of how I could describe my first trip to Dubai. Before going, I felt nervous, yet excited, but mostly uncertain, as I couldn’t comprehend what it would be like actually going to that part of the world. I will start by saying I Loved it 100%, I felt very safe, and was absolutely surprised at how familiar it felt.

Snow Day Part 1!

IMG_1971

Hey Everyone! It has been snowing here non-stop, and even as  I sit here writing, we have just over a foot and it is STILL coming down heavily. We had plans to go skiing today, but alas, it doesn’t look like we will be able to make it up the mountain, as visibility is low and the roads are completely covered! So……looks like we will be playing around here and I’ve been driving Dragan crazy all morning singing, “Do you wanna build a snowman…..”, although Jasper loves when I sing. I can tell. 🙂

The first night we were able to get some amazing shots Read more

Romper Look 2

Follow my blog with Bloglovin 2015/01/img_1633.jpg Hey Everyone. On my last post, I demonstrated taking my summer romper into winter with Fur boots, vest and a dose of Glam, but in the same day, I quickly changed the look to be more casual. I simply changed out my fur vest to a boyfriend cardigan, and my boots exchanged from heels to flat over the knee boots! I love this look so much because it is classy and comfortable and great for walking around a city……or a mall. Thanks as always to Jasper for being so perfect in all my photos. I should start a blog just for him. :-)( Read more

Winter Run

IMG_1755

Hello everyone! I hope you are all having a good start to your weeks……:-)  Last night we received a good deal of snow, and I awoke to a very beautiful postcard setting outside my window. I have my puppy waking me VERY early these days with a loud bark (which I’m not pleased about) so I was feeling pretty lethargic most of the morning, having woken up to feed, play with and walk the beast, until he was tired enough to relax.( Read more

Can You Go Home Again?

I’ve been in Ohio just over one week, and after living oversees for roughly a year, it is the first time I’ve ever been “homesick”. I’m not talking about homesick for the States, as I’ve experienced that all year long, but I feel homesick for my little spot in the world, straddling the border of France and Switzerland. It’s funny how you start to change when you don’t even know you are changing. Granted, I miss my husband, Dragan, and the routines we were getting into and the fun places we get to visit, but it’s more than that. I miss the scenery (I suppose living in the Swiss Alps spoils you), I miss my home, and weirdly, I miss the struggles I was facing. How bizarre. So, I thought I would create a little list of things you experience as an expat on the Swiss French border when you go back home to your country. This could obviously apply to expats everywhere but as I’m living in one of the most stunning places on Earth, some of my experiences I’ve learned are charmed.

First Dr’s Appointment……

Well, today I finally had my first appointment with an OB/GYN. I’m so grateful b/c I found an American. Not that I wouldn’t trust a Swiss or French Dr, but with these types of matters, I wanted to have a little comfort and familiarity. I’m really happy I found her b/c she was amazing and even referred me to an English speaking church and gave me a number to another American girl who is from Ohio who may be able to get me involved in some volunteer work until I can perhaps start working. Whoop!!!
It’s the little blessings!
