My Favorite Things in London

IMG_5002

If you had asked me two years ago if I would lead the life I currently lead, I wouldn’t have even been able to imagine the possibility and would have laughed at the thought. I was just a (fabulous if I dare say) girl in NYC, working 6-7 days a week, meeting girlfriends for trips to the beach and subconsciously trying not to focus on all the bad dates and constant worry I would be alone forever (haha) when I met Dragan at a rooftop bar for 3 minutes, not recognizing that moment would change my path forever. Then, several months later, making the conscious decision to take another path and move to Europe and marry this man. Voilà and here I am, and I’ve been so lucky to travel to my favorite place on a regular basis. In fact, I had never been to London when I met Dragan, but I had always dreamed of it, often speaking in a British accent for days on end and to my friends’ chagrin. 🙂

Now, I go to London often, and while I am no expert, I wanted to share my favorite things thus far. Read more

Geneva in Stripes

IMG_4746IMG_4754Hello! I’m really excited for this post because it combines my love of fashion with my love of Architecture, as the shots were taken in some stunning locations.

I originally wanted to post this dress in 2 ways, taking it from day to night, but Friday became quite cold and 5 minutes before leaving to shoot the post, I realized I would freeze to death! Read more

Spring Cleaning!

IMG_4624Hi Everyone! We have been so spoiled by gorgeous Spring weather here along Lake Geneva for the past few weeks, that today when a rainy and cold day hit, I was actually caught by surprise!!! Ha! But, still in the mood for Spring, Dragan and I had a cleaning day.

After starting our day with fresh Pain Chocolat, and watching The Hangover 2( I know, I’m a little embarrassed) we got to work! How much do you love these mugs?  They make GREAT gifts! The “D” mug is from C Wonder and the “S” mug is from Anthropologie!!

We played great music ( Missy Higgins Radio mixed with Bruno Mars radio on ITunes) and we organized, mopped floors, cleaned windows….basically all the things I hate ❤️…..and bought fresh flowers for all over the house. I love all flowers, but for Spring, I’m a Tulip girl all the way!

I live how clean my house feels right now and enjoying some of my new purchases! I bought this floral vase at Anthropologie when in London, the super cute canisters at Hobby Lobby in Ohio, and this cute clock and outdoor floral bucket at IKEA!

Hope you have. A great day! Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram for more up to date daily photos on Travel, Fashion, and My Life!!!

Making Friends as an Expat

IMG_4626
I’ve been thinking today about how much happier I am since making some really wonderful friends! I touched on this on my last post, but some days I can’t believe the change. Of course, I’m still homesick quite often, but I’m starting to finally get my bearings, feel at home, and actually LIKE living here! Making friends in a new culture isn’t always easy, so I’ve thought of some good tips and I realized I should have been better in the past on doing these things as well. Read more

Video from Dubai

Hi everyone! I know I wrote two posts already on Dubai, and I showered praises on the city, which I still do, of course, and I wanted to show this video of us in front of the Burj Khalifa, and tell the one sort of unfortunate experience!

I loved visiting, but it IS still an Islamic country, and so you really need to be respectful….don’t make out in public, don’t ever give the middle finger, don’t dress trashy….etc. Although I don’t like being told what to do, I don’t mind those things, but the hypocrisy is, in my opinion, that there is a lot of prostitution in Dubai. I feel like prostitution should be frowned upon as severely as making out in public……right???
And once again, as in Monaco, I was mistaken for a prostitute! What the HECK! I’m guessing it’s because I’m very blonde, I usually wear red lipstick, and although in the US, I look like a typical blonde girl from the South, in Europe, I seem to have a Russian prostitute look!
So, we finished dinner downtown and we were going to walk around and walk over to the Burj Khalifa. We walked down to the Main Street from the restaurant and Dragan decided he should use the restroom so he ran back up to the restaurant, which was located in a très chic hôtel. Here’s where I can be a little dumb. Having lived alone in NYC for so long, I often think of myself invincible (I only get scared at night if I’m in the country) so I said I wanted to stand on the corner and keep looking around. So. I’m standing on a busy road…..on the corner…..by myself…..at 10pm in Dubai…..idiot.
Then a Range Rover pulls up with an Emirate in the driver seat. He rolls down the window, and I kid you not, says, “hello lady. Are you looking for someone to go to the hotel with? Would you like to go with me?”. Here I became nervous, because although Dubai is liberal, the Emirates can do whatever they want (from what I hear) and if a woman gets raped, SHE can go to prison. What to do……what to do……
So I said, “Oh. Thank you very much for that offer sir. I’m an American and waiting for my husband who is coming right back. Thank you again!”. He smiled, nodded and drove off and I walked myself quickly (very quickly!) straight back up to the hotel where said man was pulling up…..and stood by the doorman and stared straight ahead waiting for Dragan to walk out!!!
From what I’m told, I get mistaken as a prostitute when I’m dressed up nicely because here in Europe and in Dubai I guess, Russian prostitutes make a lot a lot a lot of money and are very well presented, and often you can’t pick them out. I am so naive!!!!

So that is my one story that made me think, “Sarah…..just remember, when traveling, to remember where you are in the world”.

Then we walked to the Burj Khalifa and shot this little video……enjoy!!!

Visiting Dubai……Part II

20150225-190950.jpg

I’ve been trying to think of how I could describe my first trip to Dubai. Before going, I felt nervous, yet excited, but mostly uncertain, as I couldn’t comprehend what it would be like actually going to that part of the world. I will start by saying I Loved it 100%, I felt very safe, and was absolutely surprised at how familiar it felt.

Dubai Part 1

IMG_3281

We arrived in Dubai late Thursday night and it has been fantastic as the moment we stepped into the hotel, we have been treated like royalty. I guess this is the way in Dubai, as service is unparalleled. Checking in at 2am, we were brought fresh passion fruit juice and hand towels as we waited in the lobby and had a staff of 4 looking after us. Our first day, we were quite lazy and spent the day sleeping in then lounging at he beach. The only unfortunate event is that there is a sandstorm this weekend. Dubai has a sandstorm once or twice a year as the season changes, and it is disappointing as we can’t see too much. We are here for Work though, and it is warm,so I can’t complain too much.

Last night we went to a dinner party at a house belonging to an associate of Dragan’s, and wow, it was a treat. They have a villa on Palm Dubai with a pool and their own private beach, and it was laid back and exquisite at the same time. I met some great girls, and three were from Geneva…..small world……and I was able to wear my red Hervé Léger dress that I’ve been waiting to wear for a year. We were overdressed but I didn’t care. 🙂

Today we are taking it easy again as there was a fire last night in Dubai that makes us not want to go to the Marina. I believe we are going to Atlantis now and we have dinner with more people tonight. I hope the sand clears some so we can get some more experiences and pictures to share with you all! For those who are wondering, Dubai is super safe, and did you know, only local consist of only 11% of Dubai’s population. The rest are expatriates. It’s crazy! It feels a bit like Miami, mixed with Las Vegas, mixes with Disney World, and you lack for nothing. Follow me on Instagram for updated pics!! ❤️❤️❤️
