Preppy Stripes, Pops of Color & Picturesque Towns

This weekend has been quite rainy and cold, so we have not done too much (I’m so ready for the cold to go away) but yesterday we spent a lovely afternoon along Lake Geneva in Nyon taking photos, sightseeing and sipping Rosé.

I’ve always had a love affair with stripes, as I find them timeless and flattering, so I’m quite pleased they are really in fashion this season! This fabulous skirt is from J.Crew and can be worn so many different ways. It can be casual or dressed up, and that is precisely my style!!!! I felt ladylike and a bit like a 50’s housewife! Love it!

I speak of Nyon often because it is such a charming (and really clean) town filled with colors, sloping hills carved into narrow cobblestone roads, a Castle, and a rich history all situated along Lake Geneva’s shores. We live a 10 minute drive away, as the town is situated between Geneva and Lausanne, and has a quirky yet medieval feel to it.

We stopped at a historic house because the gates were open and were rewarded with these private views of the lake and upon entering, found that the house is used now as a music studio and often hosts private Jazz performances in the basement! What? That is incredible. As you can see, at one point, I traded heels for flats. I always carry flats in my bag and these J.Crew ones are my new obsession. They come in a variety of colors, and give a little more humph to the classic ballet flat.

Wanting a glass of wine, we headed over to my favorite wine bars along the Rue de Rive, but both were closed. IF you live in the area and the are open, I suggest stopping in. Only a block apart, they are the Cafe Des Arts and WineMoon Bar and, as you can see below, make up a portion of this colorful street, also full of shopping boutiques, hotels and small cafes.

The things you see walking in Nyon are just so beautiful and I love this view looking up to the Nyon Castle. As the small town is situated in the La Côte vineyards, finding these antique grape presses is not unusual, albeit only adds to the picturesque feeling here and reminds you of how ancient and how much history has been held here along the lake shores.

  1. This is one of my favorite post, Sarah! How very intriguing to read of a small town with cobblestone roads and a castle…makes me what to visit! Or, add that little historic town to my bucket list! I loved hearing how the historic house’s basement is used for jazz entertainment…awesome! Your tip on keeping a pair of flats with you was a useful tip, and I hope the tip resonates with those young ladies, who love wearing heels! Thank you for sharing!
