Fall Fashion Buys in Amsterdam

Trying to decide what to blog about, I tried to envision what I’m passionate about. In addition to traveling…meeting new people and seeing new things….I love fashion and Interior Design. As you can tell by previous posts, getting pampered and all things girly and beautiful, I love as well. I love to pay attention to details, even if it’s simply adding a bright lipstick to a drab outfit. One of my favorite things in the world to do is go with friends and family and help pick out decor for their homes, or pick out a special outfit for a special event. Being very opinionated teamed with a desire to help my friends feel and look their best, I do believe we should pay attention to beauty. Beauty in the way we create our homes, design our cities, dress our bodies and so on. Even on a tight budget, little details matter.

I’m hoping to start studying Interior Design soon as that was my favorite part of selling real estate in NYC, and wanted to start including more about things I love here in my little space on the internet. I do not want this to be a fashion blog as I’m not sure I’m stylish enough, but I do have a certain taste, and why not put it down.

So…

I bought some cute fall fashion pieces in Amsterdam and wanted to share. I bought 3 pairs of boots……oops….but they were reasonably priced, not high designer. I also think that right now, the greatest accessory you can buy is a hat! Hats are very ‘in’ at the moment and priced well. It takes some confidence to rock them at first, but then I think you will find you love it. I had several people stop me to ask where I got my hat. In fact, at the Amsterdam KLM lounge the woman checking me in said she has always wanted to wear hats, but feels too silly. I felt silly the first time I wore mine too, but why?? Why ever feel silly?? Wear what you like. People in this world are attracted to confidence more than anything else. 🙂 Easy to say, I know. Trust me, I feel ridiculous all the time, but I think it’s good to try new things.

Let me know what you think!

Boots:  I love the brown heel booties as they remind me of the 1800’s and I’m super glad this style is in.  These are Invito, but several brands are carrying this style! As everyone needs a military style boot, these black Steve Madden’s were a great buy. And….at Dragan’s request, I got a pair of Ossom shoes……very European, but I actually love them!

Hat: I bought mine at a French boutique called Devernois, but H&M and Zara have great choices as does J.Crew. Paired with boots, jeans and a long sweater, or dressed up with a dress, you can’t go wrong with these styles! For our trip, I paired it with a black dress and Fur vest. I LOVE  fur vests…….instant glam……..just like a hat. 🙂

Could also be cute paired down with jeans, boots and a long sweater.

Dress: BCBG and I can wear it in summer or fall……could even work with tights once it gets colder.

J.Crew has the BEST cardigans. I want one in every color. In fact, I want everything J.Crew has……who doesn’t?? As there isn’t a J.Crew here, I found both of these at an Esprit. But, back to J.Crew, this J.Crew purse is my favorite bag right now.

  1. Absolutely love the hat! I love hats, but so identified with the silliness feeling! I have to admit when we lived in Odessa and attended Bemont Baptist, there was a lady who came every Sunday in a different hat. Every Sunday morning I entered the chapel with bated anticipation…not for the pastor’s message, but I was anxiously awaiting the “HAT” lady! She “rocked” those hats! Unfortunately, my perfectly delightful round head does not seem to be too flattering with a hat atop it! So, sweet Sarah, keep rocking those hats, and thank you for letting me live vicariously through you!
